GUIDING PRINCIPLES

We always prioritize durability, natural over synthetic fibres and recyclability (meaning a limited usage of compounds).

DURABILITY

We are prioritizing durability, which results in less energy and water wastage and, most of all, less trash. One could almost say that we develop future vintage as we believe it will stand the test of time. For us, this means heavy materials, high-quality craftsmanship and repair support. For example, we could do 100% recycled cotton pieces, and the story would be great to market. However, the product would not be as durable as a mix with 50% virgin organic cotton. We work with great attention to detail. If you are not satisfied with one of our products when you receive it, or if one does not perform to your satisfaction, please return it for a repair, replacement or refund. On a case-by-case basis, we repair damage due to wear and tear at a reasonable charge. Just get in touch.

SUSTAINABILITY

Everything we make and do has an impact on people and the planet. A generalized sustainability badge is deceiving, and we believe marketing our products on the back of such essential practices is questionable. So, as the definition and understanding of what a truly sustainable practice encompasses varies widely and changes with every step in the right direction, we have decided to make this page home to what we consider fair. A radical production and composition transparency wherein we share our knowledge and actions so that you can make up your mind, minus the labels.

PACKAGING

A lot of work went into our packaging, and we believe it is close to perfect. It is 100% plastic free, composed of organic and recycled materials, 100% recyclable, has post transport utility, is sourced within the closest proximity to our warehouse (less than 200 km) and, depending on what you order, even bio-degradable and water soluble. Even our outer transport box is made of 100% recycled cardboard.

RECYCLE- AND BIODEGRADABILITY

We are continuously pushing for solutions that allow us to fully and easily recycle (or even biodegrade) our products. We always aim for a mono-material design solution: thread, fabric and label made of the same base material. For example, following that principle, our upcoming natural fibre products are 100% recyclable and biodegradable.

UPCYCLING

Another pillar of our practices is the sourcing and reimagination of used clothing. Periodically, we pick capsules that leverage the immense amount of existing clothing and breathe fresh life into it. You might not believe it but simply buying used extends a garment’s life by about two years, which cuts its combined carbon, waste and water footprint by 82%.

SERIAL PRODUCTION

We produce our essentials range with partners in Europe in small batches to ensure we are not amassing dead stock. From Portugal to Italy and Germany.

RECYCLED WOOL

An incredible 94% of CO₂e emissions reduction occurs by using recycled wool fibres instead of virgin wool. Wool is a powerful, natural fibre that insulates, breathes and lasts for a long time. Producing wool, however, is resource-intensive. Virgin wool requires vast amounts of land for grazing sheep, water to clean the fibre, chemicals to treat the wool and dyes to colour the finished product. We, therefore, use recycled wool in respect of this valuable fibre that has already been produced. As a result, we can make clothing with the same great qualities as virgin wool at a fraction of the environmental cost. We currently use recycled wool in our beanies and insulation.

RECYCLED COTTON

We try to incorporate recycled cotton into our cotton products as much as possible. Yet, as mentioned, we try never to surpass a threshold of 60% recycled cotton to ensure durability and quality. However, we are constantly looking for new technologies that will allow us to increase this amount and use even more recycled cotton.

ORGANIC COTTON

All of our virgin cotton is grown organically. This means it was grown with organic practices that eliminate the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides and GMO seeds. The simple usage of recycled cotton reduces CO₂e emissions by 80% compared to conventional virgin cotton.

STEP BY STEP

Our actions toward our goal of creating no unnecessary harm through our business operations continuously evolve as we live and learn. This page does not encompass all our ethics, practices and ideas but tries to give you a snapshot in time of how we work. The exciting part is that new technologies, insights, materials and solutions pop up daily. We are continuously determined to scan and leverage what works for us and our scale. At the same time, we are in ongoing product and material development mode, where we engage with public research entities and university partners to identify new, less harmful ways of working for a better tomorrow.
